Healthy lifestyle habits are a good place to begin. Get regular exercise, eat a healthy diet, don’t smoke and get plenty of sleep. But you can also boost your cognitive health by continually challenging your mind. Take up new and unfamiliar hobbies and other activities, and perform puzzles and other mind games regularly.
Stay Social
As we age, it is easy to fall into isolation. However, it is important to maintain healthy relationships as we age in order to reduce our risk of loneliness.
Has it been awhile since you had a date with friends or loved ones? Make time this month to schedule a date over coffee or play a game with friends. Not only will you be helping yourself, but you will also be helping others, too.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Just as sleep is important when we are younger, it is still important as you age. While you can get by with a little less as an older adult, you still need to be aiming for between seven and eight hours of sleep each night.
When you do not get the sleep you need, you run the risk of suffering from depression, irritability, increased fall risk and memory problems. To get optimal sleep, try turning off electronics at least an hour before you go to bed and avoid drinking caffeine late at night.
