The Signs of Dementia

Did your loved one used to enjoy gardening, playing cards with friends or even completing a puzzle each week? Nowadays, does it appear your loved one doesnt even talk about his or her favorite pastime?

Losing interest in a once-favored hobby or activity could be an early sign of dementia.

When your loved one begins to experience memory loss, he or she might also grow easily confused. Confusion may be as subtle as no longer remembering someones face or name to as obvious as tripping up over how to perform a basic everyday task.

Someone with dementia might also lose his or her sense of direction or find it confusing to follow certain directions.

While change can be hard for anyone, if your loved one is experiencing dementia symptoms, change can also bring about fear.

Since his or her memory is not as sharp as it used to be and directions are becoming more difficult to follow, your loved one might worry about being able to adapt to this kind of change.

If you spot any of these changes in your loved one, talk with his or her doctor about whether dementia might be the underlying cause.
