3 Ways to Help Your Loved One Stay Safe in the Summer Heat
Do you and your loved ones have plans to head outdoors today? Our team at Qualicare wants to make sure you are taking the proper precautions when protecting your loved one from the heat this summer.
Have a Safe, Fun Summer!
Let’s take a look at ways you can have a safe and fun summer with your loved one, while still enjoying the outdoors:
First, you want to make sure he or she is taking sips of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. As we grow older, we lose the ability to conserve water as we used to, so we become dehydrated faster.
If you or your loved one begin to experience symptoms of dehydration, like dizziness, extreme thirst and headaches, make sure to take a break from the sun, find a cool room, and sip on water or a sports drink with electrolytes to help replenish what’s lost through sweat.
Second, make sure it’s alright with your loved one’s physician that he or she is out and about on a summer’s day. As we age, we start taking more medications and some of them don’t react well with the sun. Talk with a doctor or pharmacist to determine if there are any special precautions you should be taking.
Third, take breaks to enjoy the air conditioning. Try mixing time indoors and outdoors so that you and your loved one do not suffer from heat exhaustion, especially if the summer day is particularly hot.
Sometimes you won’t realize you are suffering from heat exhaustion until it is too late. Therefore, take preventive steps to ensure you are keeping your cool this summer!
