Proactive vs. Reactive

I met with a couple today.  They are doing ok.

But as they venture further into their eighties they’ve noticed a slow-down.
They just don’t have the energy they once did.
One big event for the day, like a doctor’s appointment or trip to the store, is enough to wipe them out.

So they called us.

I went to their home and together we made a plan.

They could use:

  1. Someone to go to the grocery store with a list of items they’d like.
  2. Someone to make them meals, including something they can reheat and have later.
  3. Someone to stand by to make sure they are safe in the shower and while working in the garden.

…and a few other things.

Energy conservation.  Safety.  Peace of mind.  It was as simple as that.

And making these arrangements, setting up this plan NOW, while things are fairly stable — instead of in the midst of a crisis like after a fall or hospitalization – now that’s smart.

Our caregiver, Lucy is going to come a couple times a week.
And they know, when they need more help,
we are here and they are ready.
