History
Founded by four separate organizations (the Missionary Health Institute, Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, Volunteer Services, and Friends of North York General which became the North York General Hospital Foundation) the North York General Hospital opened its doors in 1968. Planning and fundraising for the hospital began in 1960 when a local group of citizens formed the North Metropolitan Hospital Association. Plans for a 70-bed facility were drafted and land at the corner of Sheppard and Leslie streets was secured in 1962.
The main hospital location on Leslie street also underwent a major expansion in 2003, increasing the number of beds, staff, and medical services provided at the facility.
