Here are eight tips you<br \/>\ncan take to help protect yourself against the flu this year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Get a flue shot.<\/strong> Even though flu shots are only 70-90% effective, it will decrease your<br \/>\nchances of getting it. It can be even more important for people with asthma,<br \/>\ndiabetes, and heart or lung disease as they are at an even greater risk<br \/>\nfor flu than the rest of the population.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bring your own sanitizing wipes<\/strong> to the store or use the ones provided at grocery stores to wipes down<br \/>\ngrocery carts. Wipe down surfaces and objects that could be contaminated<br \/>\nwith flu and other germs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth<\/strong> without washing your hands first. Germs spread this way.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wash your hands frequently<\/strong>. When a sink with soap is not available, use hand sanitizer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get plenty of sleep.<\/strong> Sleep helps boost the immune system.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drink plenty of water.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Talk to your doctor about taking immune system-boosting supplements <\/strong>such as echinacea and vitamin C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lower your sugar intake.<\/strong> Sugar depresses the immune system for several hours and will lower your<br \/>\nresistance to disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Find your closest Ontario flu shot clinic with this handy online locator<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/flu-facts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.health.gov.on.ca\/en\/public\/programs\/publichealth\/flu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What do you do to prevent illness in your household?
