Steve Kidwell
My name is Steve Kidwell and I’m the owner of Qualicare San Diego. What inspires me to make a difference in my community is just the fact that we’re working with families who are dealing with an incredibly stressful situation. It can be a grandfather needs help in the home to stay independent in the home. It could be a grandmother who has dementia. There’s just a lot of different things that families are working through.
We get that first call, and we hear the stress in their voice, we hear the concern in their voice. They need help. They need us to help them identify the issues they have, but they need us to listen to their story first.
And so I think what inspires me is every call is a story. Every call that we receive is a new story. To be able to listen to that story and then to let them know what we’re hearing and what we’re understanding and then to let them know, we’ve got this. We can help you find solutions not just to the challenges that you’re currently experiencing, but to other things that you might experience in the future. They go from tight shoulders to relaxed shoulders. It’s a very impactful thing for me to see and the rest of my leadership team to see how we make that difference.
What Sets Us Apart
The scope of services that our caregivers provide are companionship and all the different things that allow seniors to be able to stay in their home safely. That could be bathing assistance, dressing assistance, getting from point A to point B. Any of those things where there’s a risk or there’s a safety issue, we can help do those things for somebody, but maybe more importantly, do those things with them to maintain their independence while also getting some assistance.
There are many different home care agencies in San Diego. So ultimately, the first piece is that we have initial and ongoing nurse oversight. It’s so incredibly important to have that because diseases progress, issues progress. Having a nurse that’s there both on the front end and on an ongoing basis, both in oversight and in care plan development and dealing with different issues really allows us to provide better care while also providing peace of mind for families.
