Amanda Johnson

I began my career in restaurants, retail customer service, and retail banking. I quickly discovered that what I enjoyed most about my work was the opportunity to work closely with individuals and families. I learned how important it is to listen carefully, to meet people where they are, and to provide practical solutions with genuine empathy.

After college, I worked for a large IT Consulting company, travelling all over North America as a software developer, business analyst, test lead, technical lead, and project manager. These experiences gave me the chance to see the power of collaboration firsthand. Whether working in healthcare, business, banking, or telecommunications, I witnessed how much can be achieved when a group of people share the same vision and values.

As I progressed through my career, I became passionate about relational leadership, building strong, supportive teams where every member feels respected and valued. At the same time, I’ve always been deeply invested in my own community, from community organizing and activism, to participating in local sports, to volunteering with local initiatives.

Finally, as a death doula, I am passionate about palliative care and supporting individuals and their families navigating end-of-life. These personal and professional experiences combined to show me that my calling was not just to work in a career that benefited others, but to create a space where people could find trust, compassion, and the highest standards of care all in one place.

Looking back, I see a consistent theme in my career: the desire to work with teams of empathetic and dedicated professionals to overcome challenges and fulfill client needs. That theme, combined with my belief in integrity, professionalism, and compassion, has guided me to opening a Qualicare Home Care franchise and dedicating my time and effort to providing clients and families with the kind of care I would want for my own loved ones.

My transition is rooted in a lifelong passion for psychology, health, and social justice. I believe that quality care, particularly at end of life, is a human right, and that empathetic leadership is essential in all environments. I want to build strong teams that provide exceptional care, supporting clients through health challenges and major life changes.

Like many people, I have seen firsthand how difficult it can be for families to manage the challenges of caregiving. Whether you’re caring for an aging parent, supporting a loved one with complex medical needs, or trying to balance day-to-day responsibilities with protecting a family member, caregiving can be overwhelming. Quality care gives families peace of mind and allows loved ones to focus on quality time together rather than being consumed by stress. When I began researching opportunities to combine my skills and experience with a business that would make a difference, Qualicare stood out immediately. The Qualicare “360° Approach” ensures that every aspect of a client’s life is considered, including medical, social, emotional, and non-medical needs. To me, this holistic approach feels like the right way to provide care. I was also inspired by the strong reputation Qualicare enjoys across Canada and beyond. I was moved by stories of families who found caregivers that truly partnered with them on their journeys. I wanted to create a space where families in Guelph, Fergus, and Elmira could turn during some of their most challenging times, knowing that they would be met with compassion, respect, and unwavering support. Ultimately, what inspired me most to open a Qualicare franchise was the belief that everyone deserves to feel supported through health challenges, to be treated with respect and compassion, and to be provided with dignified end-of-life care. I am excited to provide exceptional care to transform lives in my community. I’m looking forward to knowing at the end of each day that my work was meaningful to our client families. The relief on a family member’s face when they realize they no longer have to carry the burden alone, the joy in a client’s voice when they share a story with their caregiver, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved one is in good hands.
